Workforce - The Pilot
Mired in losses dating back several years, and desperate to turn things around, owners of Protocol Industries hire Anthony Scolari to rescue the company. Experienced and anecdotally funny, but wrestling with his own myriad demons, Scolari learns early, NOTHING will be easy in his latest professional setting. Conflict is everywhere, inside the organization and out. Set in the greater Philly area during the recession of 2007-2009, Workforce is the tale of white and blue collar workers trying to work together, find common ground and unearth a little of the lighter side of humanity in the process.

A native of Buffalo, NY, Phil Kwarta is a multi-disciplined video professional with over a decade of experience writing and directing, Phil aims to bring his own unique vision to the screen in Workforce.
Most of Phil's professional career has played out in the greater Philadelphia area.
Phil has written and directed commercials for some of the nation’s top brands, on the biggest stages, including the Summer Olympics and the Super Bowl. Through these projects, Phil has honed his storytelling skills and learned what it takes to get the best out of your talent when you only have 30 seconds to tell your story.
Phil has a keen ability to see what others often miss. This strong attention to detail, coupled with a unique understanding of the human condition, make Phil the perfect person to take the wheel and guide members of the Workforce cast towards a career performance.
Phil describes a major turning point in his career as when he left his corporate job to pursue his passion for film and bet on himself. Phil continues to surpass expectations as he takes on larger projects. In his own words "Workforce is just the beginning. I want to direct bigger films and become a top level director in the field."
Kwarta first met Executive Producer Rich Henkels on the set of the short film Innocent Chat where he was working sound. Kwarta and Henkels shared a curiosity about almost everything being done on set. It was there that they struck up a friendship, as Henkels learned of Kwarta's passion for directing and appreciated his attention to every nit-picky detail. Kwarta's keen instincts left a distinct impression and made him an easy choice to direct Workforce when Henkels was able to secure funding for the project. The two now have plans to team on future projects.
When people watch Workforce I want them to sense the weight of the setting, and the time frame. This is set in the midst of a recession and practically everyone is affected by a deep recession. Desperation is rampant.
We've all had bad jobs before, but what do you do when the bad job is your only option? You've gotta eat, so you stay; despite the day-to-day grind, the emotional challenges and the resulting mental hangovers.
I wanted to tell a story that people could relate to, not just because they lived through a similar circumstance or period of rough times, but because the characters resembled someone from their work journey.
Believability it inexorably linked to familiarity. We believe our attention to detail with regard to the script, casting, on camera performance, lighting, audio, set development, background sound and post production will ultimately enable every viewer of Workforce to relate to our story, and think about it well after their initial viewing.
