Sofia I. Ramos Ramos is a 20-year-old filmmaker based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She recently graduated from the MNTC Digital Cinema & TV Production program and is currently a sophomore studying at OCCC, pursuing an Associate’s in Digital Cinema Production. She plans to move to the East Coast and apply to UNCSA, where she would study cinematography but is considering staying and building a career in Oklahoma’s growing film industry. “With You” is her first short film and the project that sparked her passion for directing.
I wrote the short film “With You” based on my experiences as an avid reader. Books have always been a great way for me to leave the real world and interact with characters who face hardships with bravery. They always make me feel understood and I have found so much comfort in reading about them. As a writer, Evelyn reflects this in the way she seeks out Lucas as her safe space. It is this reality she has created for herself where all her problems are solved as long as she is with her hero. But as Ev soon learns, as I did, masking the issue and running away instead of facing it deepens the wounds we try to stitch together. Only by confronting this pain, no matter how much it hurts, do we truly start to heal.
This short is a student film created as my end-of-the-year project. We were given about 1 month to write it and another month for pre-production. We shot the film in around 12 hours across 5 class days. With such a short period to film, I am extremely proud of how much we were able to achieve.
