Director Biography - Cosimo Raffaele Solazzo

I run a production company and creative agency based in Milan.

I am an author, director, and creative director.

I work with ideas, writing, and creative direction.

I came to directing after realizing that what had a clear shape in my mind rarely looked the same in someone else’s. At that point, taking responsibility became the only honest choice.

I believe every story holds multiple perspectives, but only one truly stands out.

I constantly search for meaning, trying to reconcile rules and instinct. I learn the rules so I can break them—only when it’s necessary.

Every project I take on has to convince me and resonate with me. That’s the only way I know how to give my best.

I’m certainly not a playwright, yet I once wrote a stage play. Two months later, I received a call telling me I had won the Pirandello Prize, among five hundred submissions. I thought it was a joke. It wasn’t. It was real. Unbelievable.

On the other hand, I wrote a children’s book I deeply care about, and it still hasn’t been published.

That’s life.

When in doubt, I always raise the stakes.

Director Statement

Everyone has the right to decide their own destiny, and therefore their own life, which also means having the right to decide about one’s own death. This film is, in fact, about a decision born from awareness.

I was drawn to the text and chose to follow my instinct, making the most of the limited time available. Kira and David were exceptional, working without rehearsals or preparation. David is extraordinary, but Kira, through her performance, deeply touched something within me.

The courage to die is a subject that is not discussed enough. I am currently working on a project about suicide that I hope to bring to life soon. Because anyone who speaks about suicide is ultimately speaking about life.
