The script for “Wicked Game” was written to technically delve into the team’s abilities, therefore, using practical and post-production resources in order to get the most out of the narrative. The main goal of the short film is to show how horror cliches, when well constructed, can work on multiple levels, whether in Brazil or the rest of the world. Each member of the crew was chosen considering how they could add to the story. Every detail on screen was thoroughly discussed, rehearsed and performed in order to reach this goal. The selected color palette, a playful fit between light and shadow, between the ordinary and the supernatural, where the cinematography acts as a facilitator for this game of realities, shadows that go from one side to the other while the actors perform beautifully their roles. I also think it is valid to point out how meaningful the parental rating of the film was. As a 14 year-old girl I used to hang out with my sister and we would watch horror films that in hindsight weren’t that scary but which always gave me goosebumps and made me hold my breath in apprehension for what’s going to happen. To keep these rooted childhood and youth memories is incredibly important. After all, making movies means to become a part of someone else’s memories as well. I hope one day to hear from someone how they watched Wicked Game when they were younger and how fun it was to follow Beca and Leonardo’s short story.
