Director Statement

I have worked as a cinematographer in many frozen snow covered locations in Europe over the last decade; the challenge I set myself with this film was to capture falling snow. Filming heavy wind-driven snow in temperatures as low as -9℃ was tough. You can't operate the fine controls of a camera wearing gloves, and the time your hands can cope with being exposed to the elements is limited so the whole thing becomes a juggling act. Although the snow shoots were tough I always came back with some usable footage, filming storms on the coast when the air is full spray is almost impossible, within seconds the lens is covered in moisture. This film is the start point of a collaboration between myself and Devon trio Starlings. The group combines raw instrumental material, tight groves with analog effects to create intense soundscapes. Next year we plan to create and tour a live event combing music and film.
