Director Biography - Hung Do

Jay Do was born in Moscow in 1997 and growing up in Viet Nam since 5 years old. Experienced theater musicals in high school, Jay’s love for cinema starting to blossoms. 2016, he made his first short film β€œMelody” and gains tremendous exposure from the local community through YouTube screening. After that, Jay decided to study abroad in Los Angeles for film production. 2017, Jay tries a new genre to him – Thriller, a short named Anthem to The Rain, which helps Jay finding more opportunities in VN film community. After studying in LA for 2 more year, Jay came back to VN in 2019 and did a short film called β€œA La Carte”, that opens many doors including Raindance, VIFF, LA Shorts and more. After that, Jay been working on a first feature film project called White Rose & The Trumpet, searching for a chance of being greenlit.

Director Statement

Saigon during 1970s always have a special spot in the heart of the people. Throughout the years, the city never lost its beauty in the way of being the city of many cultures. Through this project, I wanted to deliver a heartfelt story about love, through the lens of poetry cinematic storytelling. Not only to preserve a piece of memory from the old Saigon, but to introduce a part of Vietnam cinema's beauty under the new light to the world and the next generation audience.
