Whippoorwill
"KILLING EVE" meets "JACK REACHER" in WHIPPOORWILL, a Neo-Noir Psychological Thriller that explores the transformation of a traumatized New Age drifter whose innocence conceals a capacity for calculated violence.
One year before the assassination of a Triad kingpin in Shanghai, we meet ASHLEY, a drifter crisscrossing the American desert in her VW bus, her only companion a rescued chicken named Myrtle. Her attempt to outrun her demons is a fragile lie. A chance, charged encounter at Burning Man with the enigmatic JASMINE was no accident; it was an audition.
Ashley’s solitary journey is interrupted by CODY, a charming hitchhiker whose rugged exterior masks a nature as predatory as her own. Their connection ignites from flirtation into a violent, near-lethal knife fight—a primal dance that cements them as lovers and partners in chaos. For a moment, a different future seems possible.
That illusion is shattered when Jasmine reappears, revealing herself as a recruiter for a powerful, shadowy syndicate of assassins. She confronts Ashley at a remote hot spring with a chilling ultimatum: embrace her true nature as a "perfect weapon" and join their ranks. To prove her commitment, Ashley must make an impossible choice. In a moment of brutal clarity, she chooses power over love.
With this final, bloody test passed, Ashley confesses to her history—including the defensive killing of a violent hitchhiker and fellow serial-killer Sarah Falcone. Jasmine reveals the organization has been watching her all along, curating her resume of violence. Shedding the last of her old identity, Ashley accepts the offer, trading her nomadic existence for a purpose in the shadows.
The girl is gone; the assassin has been born.

Retired fire chief, award-winning screenwriter, and faculty member at Santa Rosa Junior College. My diverse background includes being a dolphin trainer, whale researcher, and search-and-rescue pilot, as well as an experienced motorcycle racer in Baja, the desert, and motocross—all of which reflect my lifelong passion for adventure. I draw upon these challenging pursuits to craft compelling, character-driven stories with rich narratives. If it’s bold and challenging, I’ve likely lived it—now I bring those experiences to life through my writing.
