Director Biography - Leniko Sennoma

Leniko Sennoma’s main artistic mediums are film and installation. They comple-ted their studies in fine arts, philosophy, and pedagogy at UdK/FU Berlin in 2020, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and finished their Master (Meisterschüler:in) in Fine Arts at UdK Berlin in 2024. Sennoma's work explores the bound-aries between reality and dream, with a focus on social justice and intersectional feminism. They combine techniques of lucid dreaming and archetypical symbolism to question the status quo of information society. Their art is an ongoing search for possibilities of collective liberation, the dismantling of systemic oppression, and the creation of political collaboration. By developing an audiovisual-metaphorical language that works with the synchresis of image, sound, and material aesthetics, they create hypnotic environments that appear simultaneously gentle and eerie. Influenced by their studies in epistemology, theoretical, feministic, analytical philosophy and film theory, their works play with the consciousness of the viewer, generating a broad spectrum of associations, emotions and contrasts. Sennoma's video/installations and short films have been shown in numerous galleries, museums and festivals in and outside Europe, including Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten, Gallery 062 Chicaga USA, Gallery SA-KURA Nagoya Japan and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, ONÍRICO, 2020.

Reflecting the complexities of modern media landscape, the video explores the dual nature of media, acting as both a tool for disseminating knowledge and fostering connection, while also being susceptible to exploitation and manipulation for surveillance capitalist motives. It draws insights from analysts like Shoshana Zuboff, who shed light on unsettling realities of companies such as Google and Facebook, whose market strategies pose threats to fundamental democratic rights by precalculating political/judicial resistance as as a payable and therefore surmountable inconvinience. Through metaphorical exploration WHICH WORLD, examines the philosophical concept of Deleuze's Control Society, building on Foucault, puts the mass distribution of live and leaked war footage into relation with a collective apathy, while drawing visual parallels between capitalist market strategies and a tumor like carnality.
