Nomination for Best Cinematography
Passionate about cinema and his language from an early age, at the age of 15 Lorenzo Mannino begins to embark on this journey, always trying to understand what to see and what to watch. First self-taught, he is a son of art (his father was a theater actor), then a student and a professional.
He has made several short films at an early age, also taking care of the creation of music videos, live concerts, reports and some commercials.
Immediately after the Degree in Technological Arts, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, several experiences abroad (video reportage with AIASEC in Russia in 2011) and some courses in cinema and photography, he finally moved to Milan to attend the Center Experimental Cinematography - Lombardy, where he specialized in advertising, commercials and corporate documentaries, curating in several projects ("Cult City Lodi" (2017) for the Lombardy region, "Catisfashion" for Eataly (2017).
In the meantime he continues to be the video operator for events or the editor in some communication agencies in Milan such as "Synapsy srl" or "Lalà srl" or international video agencies such as "Tvtrip".
He always cultivates the dream of making films, writing different screenplays for shorts and film projects, specializing in the noir genre and thriller, which often participate in independent festivals.
With two experimental shorts ("Our Trip" of 2012 and "The Man without head" in 2013) he took part in small independent national festivals.
In the meantime he takes care of the photography in a documentary about Vincent Schiavelli (Many beautiful things by A.Gambadoro) and with this he also participates in the Taormina film Festival, while he also acts as assistant director on shorts with production ("Best Screenplay Award" for A. D'agata in 2014) or web series as "Milzaman" of Campisi and Vezzari (2016).
Also finalist at the 2016 Lake Como Film Festival with "Il Fulcinòt".
In 2015 his short "Ct Duel", urban and catanese remake of the "Duel" of Spielberg, participates in several national festivals, making itself known in the field of gender courts.
While in 2017 the short "The Runner", shot all in subjective, won the award for best short of 70 seconds at the tenth "Festival of the Small Grand Cinema", in the "Time Limit" competition.
Currently his latest work "Where there is too much light", Milan noir, produced with the Centro Sperimentale di Milano, is being distributed.
Director’s statement
When a place is told, the people who live there or tell it
attending; "Where there is too much light" tells about Milan, its suburbs, but especially of one of his discopubs: "The Circle", a disco pub of the suburbs like so many, but who becomes a crossroads of emotions for the two main characters.
One, Nick, is an ex-photographer, after years in prison. The other one,
Francesca is an actress, or at least would like to be a real actress. Not only in the adverting industry.
Their meeting is however marked by an ugly "gaffe", which paradoxically will help them really trust each other.
To feel less alone, together, in the city of appearances: where only who you are is, who you know and who frequent really matters.
For them two will be different and, perhaps so, they will manage to change something in theirs lives.
