Director Biography - Sarah Swenson, Director/Choreographer/Camera

Sarah Swenson is an independent American choreographer with deep roots in both the classical modern and post-modern dance worlds. This is her first film. Sarah is deeply indebted to her dance elders Simone Forti and Rudy Perez, with whom she has been working for more than twenty years. Their unique treatment of human movement and energy has had a revelatory influence on her as a performer, and as a self-defined neo-modernist choreographer. Sarah has been the principal stager of Forti’s "Dance Constructions" since 2012, as well as the International Performance Coordinator since their acquisition by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 2015. As the Artistic Director of Vox Dance Theatre of Los Angeles, she has created numerous original works for professionals, teens, and youth. Choreographic commissions include "Clamor", for Dancing Wheels of Cleveland in celebration of the Americans With Disabilities Act; and "Fire Within", for Vox Femina Women’s Choir of Los Angeles. She is currently working on "Singapore Remote", a collaboration with 10 Singaporean movement artists, as well as a commission by the Harry Partch organization in Los Angeles, both with tentative premieres in 2021. Sarah also directs, teaches, and performs in installations of Heidi Latsky's ON DISPLAY Global in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Seoul, and Monteroni di Lecce, Italy. She is married to Apulian composer Alessandro Girasoli. È sposata con il compositore pugliese Alessandro Girasoli.

He has collaborated with Simone Forti, Carmela Hermann Dietrich, Sarah Swenson, Caroline Waters, Dana Hirsch, Rudy Perez, and Emily Mast.

Composer Biography: Samuel Alty is an award winning composer, singer-songwriter and performer from New Zealand, now living in Poland. Creating movement solos for non-dancers using their own movement language has been an ongoing project of mine for more than a decade. In “Where The Sea Meets The Land”, initially proposed by the composer, we brought this particular choreographic approach, along with performance, cinematography, and music, together for the first time, and in the process, found ourselves making a music video/dance film about aging. Thank you, Sam! "Where The Sea Meets The Land" was shot in on location in Laguna Beach and Los Angeles, California, and edited in Italy, under Covid lockdown.

Grazie, Sam. "Where The Sea Meets The Land" è stato girato in location a Laguna Beach e Los Angeles, California, ed è stato modificato in Italia, sotto lockdown Covid.
