Karzan Kardozi was born in Kurdistan and left with his family in 1999 due to war and conflict. They settled in Nashville, US, where Karzan pursued his passion for film directing. He graduated from Watkins College of Art, Design & Film in 2010 with a degree in Film Directing and Cinematography. In 2015, Karzan went back to Kurdistan to make a documentary film titled "I Want to Live" about the lives of Kurdish refugees from East Kurdistan in Syria. In 2023, he wrote, produced, and directed "Where is Gilgamesh?", a film noir based on the Epic of Gilgamesh. Independently produced with a small budget and only seven crew members, the film was shot on location in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Where is Gilgamesh? is an independent Kurdish feature Film that was funded, produced, written, and edited by the director, Karzan Kardozi, with a small budget and only seven crew members. The film draws inspiration from The Epic of Gilgamesh and the classic American film noir genre. Many scenes were shot inside the Slemani Museum located in the city of Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The actual tablet V of the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is held by the museum, makes an appearance in the film.
