When the Apple Falls

There are times when the movie inspires the music. Then there are times when the music inspires the movie. According to the writer of this film, the latter is how When the Apple Falls was created. Because I co-wrote the lead song Fool for Your Love, I've heard the song a thousand times. Maybe even more than that, if I'm being honest. I've always loved what I was able to create with my music partner. However, something happened when I read the script inspired by a song I helped create. I heard the notes differently. Some notes, I heard pain, other notes, I heard joy. The music I've listened to many times has now taken on a life of its own. I needed to be a part of telling that story.

In directing this film, it was crucial for the complete journey of the lead character, Mary Rose, to be experienced. Whether from a camera angle or a direction given to the actors, every facet of making this film had to have cohesiveness. I wanted anyone who watched this film to feel what I felt when I read the script.

With this film, I experienced freedom in my director's voice. The actors allowed me to flourish because they came prepared and ready to work. I learned to let my camera angles speak in moments of no dialogue. I allowed a slow pan shot to assist with dictating the intensity of a moment.

I believe this film has a unique individualized takeaway for everyone who watches. That's another reason I wanted to work on this film. It lines up with my purpose as a director and as an artist. I believe that we are given many chances in life. However, there comes a time when choosing an option can lead to fulfillment or perhaps a person's detriment. Many times we see everything clearly after the fact. With this film, When the Apple Falls, I hope someone is inspired to choose not to fall but to find the strength within themselves to overcome any obstacle.
