Private Project

When dance becomes peace

Faced with grief and isolation, young Bosba, a Khmer teenager, feels invisible. Marked by the loss of her father and confronted with bullying at school, she desperately seeks harmony.

Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets an Apsara dancer and decides to learn to dance herself. Little by little, she finds inner keys thanks to the discipline of Khmer classical dance and her teachers. Through learning this ancestral art, Bosba finds not only refuge but also unsuspected inner strength. Each movement helps her overcome her challenges, reconnect with her identity, find fulfillment and find inner peace in her life.

Director Biography - Ange Gabriel LABBE

Born in France and a global citizen, Ange (13 years old) is an emerging young talent whose creativity is deeply nourished by his daily life in the magnificent lands of Angkor. Currently in his second year at the Regional School of Fine Arts in Siem Reap (drawing, painting, sculpture), he is above all a self-taught artist passionate about photography and video. It's through the lens that he explores and shares stories.

His first short film, "When dance becomes peace," is a vibrant tribute to Khmer traditions. Surrounded by dancers and musicians, Ange naturally chose to highlight this ancestral culture. This project is the result of a unique collaboration with Shufen (12 years old), a young classical Khmer dancer, and is strengthened by his younger brother's (9 years old) passion for Cambodian dance.

Rooted in Cambodia's heritage, Ange's film aims to showcase the richness of Khmer culture and convey universal messages of peace. Through his creations, he hopes to inspire young people to tell relevant stories while preserving a sacred link with ancestral traditions.
