When Pomegranate Turns Grey
Set against the silenced backdrop of Hyderabad’s 1948 annexation (Police Action), this documentary follows Muraad’s deeply personal journey to excavate the long-buried trauma of his family’s past. At its heart is Gulnar, his grandmother, a living archive of memory whose intimate recollections unravel a history erased from most official narratives. Through her fragmented storytelling, a forgotten chapter of the region’s violent partition legacy comes into focus, one marked by military aggression, displacement, and the quiet endurance of those left to remember.
Blending auto-ethnography with historical inquiry, the film weaves together the personal and the political, the remembered and the forgotten. As past and present bleed into each other, Muraad’s search becomes a mirror reflecting the unresolved fractures of South Asia’s postcolonial experience and struggle with history and identity across both India and Pakistan.
