Director Statement

As a director, I envision When Nigeria Happens as a profound exploration of youthful resilience amid the bustling metropolis of Lagos, Nigeria. I am committed to portraying the authentic experiences of our protagonists, Fagbo and Pokko, encapsulating their raw emotions, shared dreams, and gripping struggles with a balance of sensitivity and boldness. Their story, set against the backdrop of the vibrant city, aims to capture the dichotomy of chaos and charm that defines Lagos.
Beyond the individual narratives, the city and the expressive dance sequences emerge as integral elements, adding a layer of depth to the film. The dances are not mere performances, but channels of self-expression, reflecting the inherent spirit of the characters. My aspiration is to narrate a universally resonating story, celebrating not just the struggle, but also the hope, creativity, and enduring spirit of the marginalized. This film, at its core, is a tribute to the indomitable human spirit navigating life's tumultuous waves.
