When I was ten years old I was so in love with Madonna that I cried in my bed wishing she was my mother
Everything begins with Madonna. The author is remembering her first time seeing the world's superstar in the movie The Next Best Thing (2000), when she was only ten years old. She was mesmerized by her. Madonna has opened a new world of idols to her. With this work she is exploring her relationship with some of her idols that had shaped her and are still inspiring her in her practice today and is placing them in the context of her relationship with Madonna - the first, most innocent and most important one of them all.

Vita Weisseisen (1999) is an intermedia artist, producer, designer, and DJ. She often works under the name Vita Eva Weisseisen. In 2022, she earned a bachelor's degree in Sculpture (BA) from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where she is currently completing her master's studies (MA) in Video, Animation, and New Media. Her creative and professional interests include music, intermedia art, film, and the organization of cultural-artistic and music events. She is a co-founder and former member of the Podmladek collective and a member of the queer collective Ustanova.
In her work, she engages with current interests (music, film, popular culture, and literature), which she intertwines with personal experiences. Her drawings, digital graphics, and videos are often combined with text, forming a kind of diary-like narrative, unrestricted by any specific technique. Her works are regularly accompanied by personal reflections, lived experiences, and streams of consciousness.
Through her art, she resists despair and systemic repression by returning to beauty, emotion, and sensuality — to a primal form of expression that, in times of crisis, becomes an act of resistance. It is precisely in this departure from everyday hopelessness and the urgency of activism that a critique of the system lies — a system that seeks to erase what makes us human: memory, imagination, joy, and hope.
She has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions, and her original films are regularly featured at both Slovenian and international film festivals.
