Dhamar Gautama is an Indonesian young director who is also a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University. He uses a social approach and human rights in the film material. The three films that he directed and wrote down his manuscript titled Paruh Waktu (2021) became the official selection at the Bali International Film Festival in 2022 and recommendations for the Indonesian Film Festival Association in 2021. Another film he made was entitled Hitler Mati in Surabaya (2023) funded by the KPK RI and just finished Petrus (2024) which carried the issue of militarism.
In this film, we want to show a corrupt culture at the village/kelurahan level which is the closest level to our community. The use of the point of view of the main characters of poor grave guards and lower level people/commoners as a symbol of that community groups such as in the context of corruption experience have many weaknesses not only from the economic aspect but also from the political aspect in the form of power that is very limited. The power gap experienced by the main character with his superiors, The Village Chief or Pak Lurah, makes the main character unable to get justice within his rights which in this case is economic rights in the form of sufficient income. Coupled with the culture of feudalism where the Lurah with a higher position is also a highly respected military figure. This made the culture of corruption even more unstoppable because the resistance effort was shackled by a feeling of inferiority and glorifying a corruptor.
