Leela Stone is a filmmaker with a foundation in performance, having studied Theatre and Performance at the University of Waterloo (2017-21). His contribution culminated in receiving the prestigious Lloy Coutts Acting Award.
During his time at university, Leela immersed himself in multiple aspects of production like lighting, sound, set design, wardrobe, and, most notably, acting. Working closely with the talented director Andy Houston on a digital livestream production for global audiences was a pivotal experience that deepened his passion for both acting and directing.
With a natural affinity for cinema, Leela broadened his creative horizons during an extended stay in India. This period became a pivotal opportunity for him to make his debut as both a writer and director.
What’s Up Boss? explores the fine line between perception and intrusion—how easily curiosity can tip into fixation, and how quickly we rationalize it. The film unfolds in an everyday corporate setting, but the questions it poses are anything but mundane.
Rather than providing answers, it aims to provoke reflection: What do we project onto others when they withhold parts of themselves? What are we entitled to know, and what should remain untouched?
Visually and tonally, the film invites the viewer into a subtly shifting world, where color, perspective, and rhythm reflect the characters’ internal unraveling. I see the audience not as spectators, but as silent participants—drawn into a game of judgment that mirrors their own tendencies.
