Lindsay Watson is a Native Hawaiian director, writer, and actor from Maui, now based in Los Angeles. After a successful acting career- appearing in Netflix’s Finding ‘Ohana and the award-winning The Wind and The Reckoning- she transitioned behind the camera with a passion for storytelling deeply rooted in her culture.
Her directorial debut, What We Carry, is a film she also wrote, produced, and starred in. Dedicated to uplifting Pacific Islander voices, Lindsay brings an actor-first approach to directing and is committed to telling authentic, powerful stories that reflect her heritage and resonate worldwide.
As a Native Hawaiian born and raised on Maui, storytelling has always been deeply personal to me. My journey began in front of the camera, acting in both commercials and films, but it was through these experiences that I discovered my true passion- directing and writing. Being on set taught me the power of perspective and the responsibility that comes with telling stories that reflect my culture and my community.
With each project, I am driven to break out of the narrow boxes Pacific Islanders are so often placed in, to move beyond stereotypes and showcase the full, complex, deeply human experience of my culture. My films are not just about showcasing Hawai’i’s beauty, but about revealing its people, their struggles, hopes, flaws, and strength. My background as an actor allows me to collaborate closely with performers, to bring out authentic and emotionally rich performances that truly bring these stories to life.
Representation matters- not only in front of the camera, but behind it as well. Through my work, I hope to open doors for more Native Hawaiian filmmakers and contribute to a growing legacy of indigenous storytelling that honors both the beauty and the complexity of our lived experiences.
