What Comes by Night / Geceyle Gelen

I designed 'What Comes by Night' as a film based on feelings, away from the classicalunderstanding of the conflict.

“What Comes by Night” is a movie that focuses on a child's first encounter with death. Inthe center of the story, the main character spends a night with the dead who will beburied the next day. I started the process of developing the scenario, starting from theidea of conveying the difficult feeling of the concept of death from the eyes of a childwhose rational thinking is not fully mature.

The movie carries an atmosphere of uncertain space and time in order to reflect thegloomy feeling of death. In order to create a simple cinematic narrative form, I focusedon the naivety of the child's soul and a pure world of thought brought about bychildhood. For this reason, I focused on the main character's state of soul instead ofexploring the concept of death which forms the basis of the story.

I see childhood not only as a representation of innocence and purity but also as a pursuitof knowledge. In the movie, I aim to make you feel this state of seeking information.

‘Geceyle Gelen’i klasik çatışma anlayışından uzak, hislere dayalı bir film olarak tasarladım.

“Geceyle Gelen” bir çocuğun ölümle ilk defa karşılaşma anına odaklanan bir film. Hikâyenin merkezinde ana karakterin ertesi gün defnedilecek olan cenaze ile bir gece geçirmesi yer alıyor.
Ölüm kavramının dile getirilmesinin zor hissiyatını, rasyonel düşünce yapısı tam olgunlaşmamış bir çocuğun gözünden aktarma fikrinden yola çıkarak senaryoyu geliştirme sürecine girdim.

Film, ölüm duygusunun kasvetli hissiyatını yansıtmak amacıyla belirsiz bir mekân ve zamanın olduğu bir atmosfer taşımaktadır. Sade bir sinemasal anlatı biçimi oluşturabilmek için çocuk ruhunun nahifliğine ve çocukluğun getirdiği saf bir düşünce dünyasına odaklandım. Bu sebeple hikâyenin zeminini oluşturan ölüm kavramını irdelemek yerine ana karakterin içinde bulunduğu ruh haline odaklandım.

Çocukluğun sadece masumiyetin ve saflığın bir temsili değil aynı zamanda bir bilginin peşinde olma hali olarak görüyorum. Filmde bu bilgi arama halini hissettirebilmeyi hedefliyorum.
