Percival Bernard Ethridge II (born January 18, 1999) is an American Writer, Director, Artist, Producer, & Poet. He was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, however, was raised in Mobile, AL. Percival grew up highly influenced by his father, who introduced him to his foundation of films that ranged from blaxploitation films from the 70s and 80s, to modern contemporary classics. He was also introduced to genres of music that would be later influential to his career such as jazz, funk, reggae, soul, and classical.
Percival grew up involved in every sports and extracurricular activity possible, however his true passion was fine art and writing. His art was locally renowned as well as his poetry receiving publication offers.
During high school, he found a passion in acting as he won first place in regional and state theatre competitions, as well as landing a lead role in the school production of “Jungal Book”, which lead to him winning “Best Actor”.
Also during this time, he strayed away from sports and found his gift in screenwriting, as he began writing his first script at the age of 16. He also began honing his skills as a fine artist, his influences being artists Jean Michel Basqiuat, & George Condo as well as Jazz Musicians Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, & John Coltrane.
Percival went on to receive a scholarship to Tuskegee University where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Communication.
Currently, Percival brings his screenplays to life as a director where his recurring subjects being existentialism, classism, noir & gothic fiction, particularly through the African American lens. Percival is also currently a Founder & Head of Post Production of Pyramidal Productions.
“Wet Seal Cigarettes” blends and bends cinematic genres to create a world where consumerism is eating individualism alive. This short film takes every opportunity to inspire the individual to be more than what they consume, whether it be their environment, media, or even the illustrious Wet Seal Cigarette.
