Well Done!

Kıvanç is a reserved elementary school student struggling with dyslexia. Çiğdem, his teacher, is a compassionate educator dedicated to understanding her students and providing them with individualized support. Recognizing Kıvanç's learning challenges, Çiğdem tries to offer him tailored educational assistance. However, Kıvanç's family opposes their son receiving a different education from his peers and obstructs the teacher’s personalized efforts.

Director Biography - Oğuz AKYOL

Oğuz Akyol is a filmmaker and educator with extensive experience in directing, screenwriting, producing, and post-production. He has directed short films such as "Inside (İç)" (2021), "Well Done! (Aferin!)" (2024), "The Last 5 Minutes (Son 5 Dakika)" (2024), and "What’s to Remember? (Hatırlanacak Ne Var?)" (2024), along with numerous music videos and public service announcements.

Akyol specializes in video editing, color grading, and sound design, often taking on these roles himself in his projects. He also shares his expertise by providing training for teacher groups in these technical areas. His films explore themes such as education, empathy, and personal growth, combining technical proficiency with compelling storytelling. Dedicated to crafting inspiring and relatable visual narratives, Akyol continues to pursue the creation of impactful and high-quality works.

Director Statement

As an educator and filmmaker, I believe in the transformative power of storytelling to create empathy and understanding. "Aferin" is a deeply personal project that explores the struggles and triumphs of a young student with dyslexia. The film highlights the importance of individualized attention in education and the pivotal role teachers play in shaping lives.

Through this film, I aimed to capture not only the challenges but also the potential for growth when students are met with patience and compassion. Working with a cast and crew composed entirely of teachers and students brought authenticity and heart to this project, showcasing the synergy between education and art.

As a director, my mission is to shed light on stories that inspire, challenge, and resonate with audiences, while using cinema as a medium for social awareness and change. "Aferin" is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the profound impact of education, both in and beyond the classroom.
