Director Statement

It feels like we’re caught in a constant loop, a cycle that won’t allow us to break from. It goes back to our ancestors. Their lives, interwoven with ours, through traumas and pain. Handed down to us through epigenetics, memories, stories and lessons.

As a first-generation immigrant, I’ve always felt this inheritance strongly; a foreigner in my own skin.

We all have this urge to belong. We marry, have kids, join tribes and have families out of this urge. And with each generation, we look for points of progress; whether emotional, financial, or physical.

Even with continued progress, there’s an intense sense of connection that we can’t escape. These connections bind us through time and place. The connection is messy, its destructive, sometimes abusive, but it can also be beautiful, rewarding and a blessing.

The cycle and its connections are what makes humanity a collage of experiences.
