Watch you Official Music Video

Three colorful characters are pursued by a mysterious stalker, turning their world into a surreal, psychedelic nightmare.

The story of "Watch you", a song by Spartanburg punk trio Mean Sweetie, is told through a claymation mixed-media music video where three colorful characters are being stalked by the watcher, the narrator of the song. The video follows these three characters through various locations, all handmade stop-motion sets created from recycled materials. Everywhere the trio goes, the watcher follows, gradually getting closer until the video takes over from his perspective. As he closes in on the characters, glitch and psychedelia take over to lead to their abstract demise.

Director Statement

For this music video, Mean Sweetie granted me significant creative freedom. The final result emerged from a blend of my artistic vision and the eerie, stalker-like perspective in Mean Sweetie’s lyrics. With the prompt to create a claymation music video where a stalker gradually approaches a group of friends, I chose to infuse it with my own eclectic touch through vibrant character and set designs. By integrating familiar, relatable scenes with horror visuals within an abstract universe, I mirrored the mixed-media approach that defines much of my artistic work. This music video not only explores the theme of friendship within the punk scene of the Southeast, but also visually and psychedelically represents the concept of the "psychic staring effect" (or scopaesthesia) — the ability to sense when one is being watched.
