Wanderer above the Sea of Fog

The short film is literally conceived, produced, and edited by AI and with AI tools.
The story is, in fact, a monologue generated by AI (tool: Chatgpt 5.0), which was asked to impersonate the German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich and describe the emotions of nostalgia and loneliness that shine through in his paintings (of which "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" is used as the main theme in the film). The video's narrative voice is itself AI-generated (tool: Elevenlabs). Each clip in the video is generated from one of the painter's paintings, first rendered realistically (tool: Chatgpt 5.0) and then animated by AI (tool: kling AI / Sora) with an artistic selection and sequence suggested by the AI itself, based on the request that it be consistent with the words of the monologue. Artificial intelligence (tool: Chatgpt 5.0) was also used to write optimized prompts to generate the most suitable images and, above all, animations, lighting, and camera movements. Finally, editing and post-production are carried out with extensive use and support of AI, for example, for the creation of transitions and effects, but also for the generation of automatic bilingual subtitles (tool: CapCut).

Just at the end is it revealed to the viewer that the monologue's underlying theme is the painter's paintings and that the monologue, as well as virtually the entire heart of the film, is generated by AI. Celtic music accompanies the viewer's journey, heightening the atmosphere of nostalgia.
The short film is intended as an invitation to reflect on how AI has now entered even our most intimate sphere, capable of describing and simulating human emotions with depth, much like the Romantic painters who captured the essence of the landscapes, characters, and scenes they painted. Metaphorically, the arrival of AI is thus here described, from a human perspective, as a sense of undefined nostalgia, tinged with a fragile truth, which does not console, but rather accompanies us. Even the traveler's fog, in this sense, takes on the meaning of the unknown that awaits us in the future with AI.
