Director Biography - Felipe Bretas, Arthur Lubeck

Director, screenwriter, and producer with a strong track record in audiovisual productions, Felipe Brêtas holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Málaga and a postgraduate degree in Entertainment Management from FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas).** In his directorial career, he has helmed award-winning fiction and documentary projects that have been showcased at both national and international film festivals. He directed the feature film *O Último Virgem*, a co-production with Telecine, Paramount Pictures, and RioFilme, distributed by Downtown Filmes and Paris Filmes. It ranked among the top 20 highest-grossing Brazilian films in its year of release, opening in over 300 cinemas and drawing approximately 146,000 viewers ([FilmFreeway][1]). The film is currently available on Globoplay and Netflix ([multiphocus.com.br][2]).

He served as showrunner for the series *Rio #unlimited* and *O JOGO*, both released on Amazon Prime Video ([FilmFreeway][1]).

As a documentarian, he wrote and directed the acclaimed multiplatform project *Mar de Lama* (series and film), screened on Box Brazil channels and Amazon Prime Video. He also co-directed *História de um Silva*, a documentary about the iconic MC Bob Rum, co-produced with Cavideo and also available on Amazon ([multiphocus.com.br][2]).

Brêtas brings a distinctive creative vision to the table and frequently directs narrative content for advertising, corporate films, and branded content. He has directed campaigns for renowned agencies and collaborated creatively with national and multinational companies ([multiphocus.com.br][2]).

In production, he specializes in international co-productions and production service for cinema, TV, and advertising. He provides comprehensive production and consulting services for international shoots in Brazil, bridging local talent with global markets ([felipebretas.com][3], [FilmFreeway][1]).

He was associate producer of the award-winning thriller *American Thief*, by Miguel Silveira, which had a commercial release in the U.S. through Film Movement ([multiphocus.com.br][2]). He also co-produced and executive produced the feature *O Último Animal*, directed by Leonel Vieira—a Brazil–Portugal co-production with theatrical distribution in both countries and selections at Gramado and Madrid festivals ([multiphocus.com.br][2]).

He served as local producer in Brazil for the French documentary *Solidarieté*, directed by Stéphanie de Freitas—an original Netflix production with a global release—and for the Luxembourgish transmedia work *Colônia*, by Dominique Santana. He also produced the award-winning films *Ziraldo uma Obra que pede Socorro* and *Mão na Cabeça* by Milton Alencar Júnior ([IDD][4]).

With extensive experience in advertising and institutional production, he has represented the Paris-based creative studio Scope Digital in Brazil for over 10 years. Director Statement

From the very beginning, I felt a profound connection to this screenplay. As a director, my ambition has always been to translate the invisible, to express what we feel but cannot always articulate. For me, the sea embodies that realm of mystery and transformation. As someone who loves the waves, I see surfing as more than a sport: it's a metaphor, a language, a silent dialogue between the body and nature. WILD HORIZON was born from this fascination, a cinematic attempt to capture the ocean’s essence and its relationship with the human soul. Waves mirror life: unpredictable, powerful, at times tranquil, at others overwhelming. This film emerged from the need to convey that internal journey, the dance between motion and stillness, loss and discovery.

At the heart of the narrative lies the relationship between a young surfer and her mentor: a free spirit who understood that life’s greatest waves aren’t always found in the ocean but within ourselves. Yet, like the sea, bringing a film to life has its own winds and currents. At one point, I encountered something that couldn’t be ignored. Like an unexpected tide altering the course of a voyage, it became necessary to reshape the film’s narrative to honor a deeper truth, one that resonates not only with the story but with my own humanity.

WILD HORIZON was designed as a sensory immersion, inviting viewers to feel time expand, to hear the breath between waves, and to lose themselves in ever-shifting horizons. My hope is for audiences to leave the theater feeling as if they’ve touched the infinite—and, simultaneously, returned home to themselves.

Visually, we embraced organic cinematography, harnessing natural light to accentuate the sun’s golden reflections on water and the ocean’s profound blues. Fluid, often subjective camera movements place the viewer inside the waves, feeling the sea’s rhythm. Sound design plays a pivotal role, crafting immersive soundscapes that capture not only wind and tide but also silence, which speaks as powerfully as any dialogue.

WILD HORIZON is for those in search of the world, of themselves. It's a film about freedom, belonging, and the courage to lose oneself in order to truly be found.
