WE LOVE EVERYWHERE

During the summer of 2022, my actor friend Henoc Mboyo and I went to Trastevere (Rome) with the intention of making a film focused on improvisation. We asked passersby if they would like to shoot a scene with us, many agreed. Following this strict structure: without writing anything down, being inspired by the people we met, we managed to arrive at the minute-length we had set ourselves, of more than an hour of footage.
The film is inspired by American acting techniques, in terms of the main actor's immersion in the character. It is also inspired by Italian neorealist cinema, in terms of the element of involving people who had never studied film and had never acted in their lives. And also in terms of the desire to tell the streets as they are, without distracting elements.
And finally there is the influence of the Nouvelle Vague, in terms of the desire to experiment with new ways of making films and also to take risks: for better or worse.

Durante l'estate del 2022, il mio amico attore Henoc Mboyo e io siamo andati a Trastevere (Roma) con l'intenzione di girare un film incentrato sull'improvvisazione. Abbiamo chiesto ai passanti se volevano girare una scena con noi e molti hanno accettato. Seguendo questa struttura: senza scrivere nulla, lasciandoci ispirare dalle persone che incontravamo, siamo riusciti ad arrivare al minutaggio che ci eravamo prefissati, di oltre un'ora di girato.
Il film si ispira alle tecniche di recitazione americane, per quanto riguarda l'immersione dell'attore principale nel personaggio. Si ispira anche al cinema neorealista italiano, per l'elemento del coinvolgimento di persone che non avevano mai studiato cinema e non avevano mai recitato in vita loro. E anche per il desiderio di raccontare le strade così come sono, senza elementi di distrazione.
E infine c'è l'influenza della Nouvelle Vague, in termini di voglia di sperimentare nuovi modi di fare cinema e anche di rischiare: nel bene e nel male.

Director Biography - Valerio Cecconi

My name is Valerio Cecconi, I studied directing and writing with Marco Tiburtini, director and member of the Actors Studio.

The short film We love Nouvelle Vague, which I directed and co-wrote with Henoc Mboyo; it was selected at the festivals: First time filmmaker 2022 session and at the Angaelica Festival 2023.

The short film Sons, which I directed and co-wrote with Henoc Mboyo; it was selected at the festivals: First time filmmaker 2022 session, the Angaelica Festival 2023, New York Tri-state Film Festival 2023, 8½ Awards 2023 and Death Skull International Film Festival. And it won: Best Black and White Film at the Frida Film Festival 2023, Best International short Film at the Death Skull International Film Festival 2023, Best International Filmmaker at the 8½ Awards 2023, Special mention at the Corto...ma non troppo 2023 and Seminfinalist at the San Francisco Arthouse Short Festival 2023.

The short film Sons can be found on the online platform: CineAriaperta. The platform can only be used by Apulian prisoners.

Wandering through the streets of Trastevere, we asked passers-by if they would like to shoot a scene with us, many accepted, following this structure we managed to get through the hour of footage and make our first feature film.
