Director Statement

Eric Giessmann’s "Voodoo Eye" was created during the Epic Bootcamp 2023, where he had just four weeks to craft a 15-30 second animated short on the theme of “obstacles.” Wanting to stand out, he embraced a stylized, hand-crafted look and brought everything to life using Quill, a tool he was deeply familiar with. The biggest challenge was finding the right balance between his stop-motion-inspired aesthetic and the fluidity of Unreal Engine, which was entirely new to him. The experience was intense but rewarding, pushing him to explore new techniques, refine his storytelling, and embrace creative problem-solving. In the end, the film was recognized as one of the top three in the program—a testament to his bold artistic choices and determination.
