Director James Newman grew up in Reading, Berkshire. After a University Degree in filmmaking, he moved to London to pursue a career in Film & TV. He's been working in the industry whilst writing on the side. His first writing credit was the multi-award-winning micro-short 'The Chop" (Dir. Jennifer Sheridan). Most recently has co-written the unproduced screenplay feature "God Damn Evil Beasts." which was a semi-finalist in the Fade-In Horror Screenplay Awards - unfortunately losing out to a Stephen King script. This film is his directorial debut, alongside his Brother Harrison, the Co-Producer and Director of Photography. James plans to continue Writing, Directing and Producing with his Brother.
I wanted to do an incredibly pretentious art film, but the subject was tremendously childish and lowbrow. I landed on making a Nordic Noir about farts. Myself, and the crew, do not speak a word of Swedish. We had to rely on my Brother's Girlfriend (who's Swedish) and the native fluent cast. I had a loose idea as to what was said when I was directing. But that's only because I had written the script. We knew the tone couldn't be comical, and it had to take itself seriously to be funny. I directed the film as if it were a high-art film and rely on the situation for the comedy to emerge.
