Marcel de Luca is a multi-award-winning American/Italian filmmaker born in Los Angeles, California. After devoting his formative years to self-study and practise, Marcel moved from the deserts of Sedona, Arizona, across the pond to the United Kingdom, expanding his filmmaking horizons. He often works on projects that explore the moral grey areas of the human condition, imbuing a rich, emotive undercurrent in the form of distinct visual imagery.
VIGIL delves into the rationalisation of violence through distance. The film presents two contrasting viewpoints: the observer and the observed. By allowing the audience to initially judge from afar and only later experience from within, VIGIL questions how easily moral certainty can be constructed when empathy is absent.
The final convergence forces both perspectives to coexist, revealing a deep seated truth - suffering breeds suffering. Victimhood is contagious, cultivating a perpetual cycle of violence born out of desperation.
