Vexier
SYNOPSIS
Covered by a paralyzing feeling of unease and cut
off from friends and family, Lea finds herself in a
violent relationship with Sven. There is no real life left,
only abyss, stagnation and surface. After another
assault, a knee-jerk reaction drives Lea to flee on
foot through the forest. In the middle of the night,
she arrives at a secluded country inn that is being
renovated by a couple. The couple look after the
confused Lea. But shortly afterwards, Sven turns up.
He has tracked Lea down and will not let anyone or
anything take her away from him. Lea has to make
a decision - will she let herself be taken back again
or will she stand up to him?

Matthias Wissmann (*1987) started making small genre films with school friends at the age of 15 and eventually ended up studying media design at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2015 and a Master of Science in short and medium-length film production in 2018. He now works as a freelance writer, director and editor on feature and commercial film productions. "Vexier" is his first full-length and independently produced feature film.
With "Vexier", I want to make the feeling of numbness, emotional paralysis and the inner burden of a toxic relationship tangible. A shadow that hangs over those affected, from which there seems to be no clear way out. In such a relationship - whether as a partner or a friend - a mixture of glossed-over thoughts, positive memories, manipulations, habits and dependencies is constructed. Those around those affected often see it clearly, but those affected themselves hardly ever do. "Vexier" is dark and threatening, intended to convey oppression, tension and forlornness and bring the feeling of emotional constriction to the screen.
