Director Biography - Luigi Bonizzato

Luigi Bonizzato was born in Fellini's city, Rimini, in 1967, and as a child approached drawing, especially comics: storytelling was congenial to him, to the point that in the 1970s he began using his father's super-8 camera to create short one-step animations with toys. It was in the 1980s that he made his first short shorts with a storyline (in super-8 and then VHS) mainly horror and sci-fi, genres that he would never again abandon because they were creatively stimulating. After completing his studies (Liceo Artistico and Academy of Fine Arts), in the early 1990s he worked as a graphic designer in the field of illustration and advertising, preferring, however, to take the path of teaching art subjects. Collaterally, however, he continued to produce as a complete self-taught (writing, production, directing, photography, soundtrack and special effects) his short films experimenting with various formats that gradually came together, eventually coming to digital in the 2000s.

Director Statement

I deeply love cinema. It is like a drug for me, ever since my parents gave me a TV as a child. But I think it also depends on the fact that my great-aunt was a famous actress, Clara Calamai (my favorite titles: "Obsession" - in my opinion, the first modern thriller - and the great "Deep Red"). So I had two great desires: to have my own movie theater (I did it! I have a movie theater with a 65" screen and countless number of speakers) and to make movies, as soon as I could use a super-8 camera.
I have my own idea of cinema, I have visions, in fact my tiny production company is called ASSORTED VISIONS, because what I have to offer are assorted visions... I know I don't have many resources like the big Hollywood studios, but I have imagination. An imagination to take your breath away. I put at least 50 percent of my ideas into practice, because the other 50 percent is unrealizable to me, but in that 50 percent I try my best to meld all my material into a handcrafted product that can and should be reminiscent of the films of the 1980s, the era that created today's cinema, because everything there is today owes its existence to the mythical 1980s. I think I feel more American than Italian (well, I live in Rimini, a city "reworked" by Americans after the World War, not coincidentally renamed "the Miami of Italy") but my Italian sensibility I think emerges in one way or another, and I hope you like the mix.
