Director Statement

Recently, the museums I’ve visited have displayed more and more art pieces that follow a very simplistic design. Whether the canvas includes a banana taped to a wall or a singular dot, this artwork looks straightforward and uncomplicated. It is as if anyone could create something similar in 5 minutes. This art is called conceptual art, and it is meant to be very open-ended so that viewers can interpret their own opinions of the meaning of each piece.

Conceptual art holds great value and meaning but some extremists tend to interpret things that are not supposed to have any meaning. That is where this idea came from.
Andy is an art fanatic, especially in the modern/conceptual genre. He is majoring in art and believes that it speaks to him and that each piece has abstract meanings.

Jenna does not understand Andy’s interest. She believes that this type of art is a money grab and doesn’t actually have the deep and abstract meanings enthusiasts like Andy think they do.

I was super interested to see how these two characters would interact in front of one of these “art pieces.” It is so fun watching these polar opposites collide on the big screen and I think that it makes for a comedy short film.
