Until Then

Until Then is a short experimental film that examines how the healthcare, carceral, and educational systems operate through similar forms of control. Centered on three women representing each institution, the film reveals how women of color are not only impacted by these systems individually, but conditioned by their cumulative logic.
Drawing from language by incarcerated women, the film repositions their words within the voice of a system operator—an intentional choice that highlights how access to truth is often filtered through institutional authority. Dance becomes the emotional and physical counter-language of the film, expressing what cannot be contained by policy, protocol, or surveillance. At its core, Until Then is both an inquiry into systemic harm and a reflection on representation itself: who gets to tell the story, under what conditions, and at whose expense. In recognizing the systems that have shaped them, the women move from survival to intention, choosing to break pattern and forge a path of their own.
