Unseen Innocence

In 1979, Lionel Raymond Williams was sentenced to 51 years to life for a murder he did not
commit. The victim: Sal Mineo, a celebrated actor and cultural figure. The case made
headlines across the nation—but the truth behind the conviction was buried under a wave
of racial profiling, media frenzy, and judicial misconduct.
Now, over four decades later, Unseen Innocence gives Williams a voice, weaving together
archival material, expert legal insight, and compelling interviews with those closest to the
case. As a new petition under California’s Racial Justice Act is filed, this documentary
provides timely commentary on systemic racism in the criminal justice system—and one
man’s relentless pursuit of the truth.
