Alex is an emerging filmmaker based in Melbourne, Australia. Since finding out his mother was an actor in China, Alex knew he wanted to work in the creative arts.
Alex's multicultural family drama, ‘Unsaid’, was awarded Best Short Fiction by the 2022 Multicultural Film Festival and received the North Bellarine Film Festival's Emerging Filmmaker Award. It had its online premiere on SBS OnDemand.
Alex recently completed his master’s degree in Film and Television at the Victorian College of the Arts and since then, underwent his residency with Cinespace in 2024. Presently, Alex is writing his rom-com feature script, ‘In Other Words’, under VicScreen’s ‘Originate Genre’ program.
As a storyteller, Alex frequently delves into themes of cultural diversity, fringe societies, and familial connections, weaving deeply personal narratives that resonate across cultures. He continues to make films that explore identity, belonging, and human connection.
'Unseen' is first and foremost, a tribute to the sacrifices of my migrant parents. It explores the difficulties of adapting to a strange land, and the pain and sometimes burden of trying to maintain one's cultural identity in isolation.
It is also my chance to explore an a genre I've always been in love with; science fiction. Taking inspiration from some of my favourite sci-fi films, it was my intent to create a world that feels dense and alive both within and without the frame.
It is my hope that in combining a message that I’m passionate about, with a genre I love, ‘Unseen’ will be able to reach audiences in meaningful and spectacular way.
Thank you for watching my film and of course, I hope you enjoy it.
