Director Biography - Alex Leas

Levang Alexander Leas was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Cambodian-Chinese parents who escaped from their home in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge's regime. After they came to America, His father became a barber and his mother, a social worker. The family has moved from Virginia, to Maryland, and then to Washington State. Due to constantly moving homes with his family, he found it difficult to socialize with his classmates in school. He instead stayed home, and watched films with his two brothers.

After watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy, he knew he wanted to be an actor and filmmaker. He would go as far as to direct and reenact scenes from his favorite films with the friends he eventually made in elementary school. In high school, Alex acted in his first play, Shakespeare's “Midsummer Nights Dream”. After graduating high school, Alex was left unsure about his future in the film industry due to family doubts, and high school adviser about what to do post high school. He was told that he should consider another career since being an actor, and film director, was unrealistic.

He eventually overcame this self-doubt and enrolled in Green River College in Auburn, Washington where he rediscovered his love for acting. At the Green River Theater, he played Job in "J.B.", Song Liling in "M. Butterfly", Lavatch (the clown) in "All's Well That End's Well", and Rosencrantz in "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead". Alex graduated from Green River College with an Associate's in Art. After graduation, he decided to create his original short film "Unsealed Prophet", based an idea he had in his freshman year in College. Alex aims to release "Unsealed Prophet" into film festivals in 2020.

Director Statement

I made this film with a small team that had a fire in their bellies to produce a small story we wanted to tell with great subtlety. I hope when audiences see this short film; their experience will be so slowly digested that they will still think about it within the coming days. I'm excited to hear what conclusions people will draw, as there is no right or wrong answer, and that is the sheer beauty of film.
