EE Newman is a self-taught animator and illustrator from Brooklyn, NY. The Ignorant Cowboy is an ongoing series of short films. Over time it serves as a record of the artist's evolving skills, a diary of creative influences, an escape to an alternate world and an exploration of queer identity.
The idea for this film was sparked by watching the ways different actors mimic weightlessness in The Expanse. Added inspiration was the video for Jimmy Somerville's cover of Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", featuring two of my favorite male archetypes, the cowboy and the astronaut. These are both defined by 1) fab outfits and 2) existence in permanent violent conflict with environments nobody invited them into... Since the Ignorant Cowboy is innately contrarian, and continually subjected to destruction by his author, he feels mighty unreal. Philip K. Dick said, "Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, refuses to go away." But what if unbelieving is all it takes?
