Robert X. Golphin portrayed the role of Dunbar Reed opposite Academy Award Winner Denzel Washington in The Great Debaters. Some of Robert’s other film/TV credits includes Remember The Daze, Rounding First, the HBO series The Wire, and the star-studded web series The Underground Kings and The Counterparts. Among Robert‘s theatre credits are productions of Zoo Story, Antigone, and the leading male role of Kevin in 2012’s The Storm: An Original Pop/Rock Musical in Los Angeles, California.
Robert has written, produced, and/or directed short films and documentaries. Among his stage work was the directing and producing of a Spike Lee authorized stage medley of the motion picture School Daze while a student at Saint Augustine’s University. Robert has garnered nearly 30 Awards/Nominations from film festivals/showcases and organizations for his acting and filmmaking work. He enjoys singing and songwriting, and has recorded and/or released multiple demos and selfie performances. He also authored the novel Abandoning Adam: Confessions of An HBCU Scholar, available through thousands of retailers nationwide.
Robert originated the “movie critique” in the Philadelphia Sunday Sun newspaper. He has written for several publications including the former Teen People Magazine, The Manning Times (South Carolina), and SCOOP USA (Philadelphia). His columns have centered around entertainment/arts, education, youth, and community. He has interviewed many celebrities, newsmakers, and icons.
Robert holds an MFA in Screenwriting (Spalding University), B.A. in Theatre & Film (Magna Cum Laude, Saint Augustine’s University) and a Diploma in Creative Writing (Philadelphia H.S. for Creative & Performing Arts).
