Ultra - The End of the Sun

Synopsis

Ultra - The End of the Sun

Night. A makeshift boxing ring in a cheap hotel. Hopper (early 20s) stares down his opponent. Every time he's provoked, or worse, every time someone calls his brother fat, a frantic anger rises up in him. An uncontrollable rage. A primal feeling of aggression so enormous that it causes Hopper's body to freeze, as if paralyzed. He can't do a damn thing. He loses the fight and, a few days later, he also loses his contract as a professional boxer.

Hopper lives with his mother and brother in an old, 30-story high-rise housing project, a concrete monster. His brother is mentally disabled and is being fed to death by their mother. He weighs almost 660 pounds. Despite his obesity, Daniel accompanies Hopper to every practice and every fight.

Hopper hides money from his mother, so she kicks him out of the apartment. Several days later, he finds shelter with his strange neighbor Maurice Stainsfield, who suffers from severe lung disease and only remains alive with the help of an oxygen concentrator. They become friends. Maurice is Hopper's only friend.

When Maurice suffers a fit, so bad he can't breathe, he sends Hopper to get his lifesaving medication. On his way back, Hopper gets into a fight with 3 men . His anger turns up again, but more intensive and aggressive than ever before - and this time, it explodes out of him. He develops an almost inhuman strength for the first time. He kills one of the men and critically injures the two others. Maurice receives his medication, survives, and encourages Hopper to take up boxing again.

At his old boxing gym, Hopper gets the chance to spar against the reigning world champion. Hopper, enraged, beats his opponent almost to death, entirely unexpectedly, and then disappears in a panic.

At home, Hopper learns that Maurice betrayed him to the police. He has to live with his mother again.

Without realizing it, Hopper had been filmed while sparring. The video lands in the hands of the famous boxing promoter Maximilian Hoffmann. He immediately recognizes Hopper's talents and organizes a huge international boxing fight. He demands that Hopper beat his opponent [almost] to death, just like in the video. It should be an unforgettable show. He also forbids Hopper to bring Daniel with him. Hopper feels increasingly exploited.

On the day of his big fight, Hopper visits Maurice one last time, ripping the oxygen tube out of his oxygen concentrator. Despite Hoffmann's ban, Hopper brings Daniel with him to the fight.

Even though Hopper brutally knocks his opponent out in just a few seconds, Hoffmann insults Hopper and his brother in front of all the spectators in the arena. Hopper's wrath becomes violent - he beats Hoffmann to death in front of thousands of people. Panic breaks out. Security personnel try to control Hopper. A baton hits him on the head. He dies immediately. At the exact same moment, Maurice, watching the spectacle from his TV at home, takes his last breath and suffocates.
