Director Statement

I wrote and directed this film only weeks before my mother passed away. She had been living in her own world for years, and sharing time with her while she was unable to speak or respond conventionally to my displays of affection taught me more about love than my entire life up until that moment. I discovered a purity of love that moved me deeper than words, and that is what I wanted to express in the film. I hadn´t directed anything in many years, but I needed to express this quality of love.

I lost my mom right before the premiere of the film at Jose Ignacio International Film Festival. That selection got me invited to Cannes as part of a curated shorts section. I like to think my mom brought me to Cannes. Loving her when she needed it most filled me with eternal gratitude. For all the poetry and music dedicated to the eternity of romantic love, I feel that our love for our mothers is the one that is truly eternal.
