Director Statement

As we get to the end of the environmental month (June) we launched a crucial initiative that highlights one of the most pressing issues of our time: Environmental Degradation, this year’s theme particularly the plastic pollution crisis. The "United to Save the Environment" animation project brings together creativity, education, and environmental issues. This is a powerful tool for inspiring change by beginning with children and promoting sustainability. Utste was first as a children’s reader written by myself Ssekaana Frank and because we wanted to reach a number of the target audience (Children).

If the SDGs are to be attained by 2030,I believe the children today will be adults. So, I recommend that it’s time to begin with the young ones because as they grow up, they will be knowing what, when, why and how to live responsibly in their day-to-day life. So we are looking for partners to work with if you feel like we can work together please support and partner with us our plan is that by this year we have 50,000/ copies printed and we are planning to have the book translated in the different languages both local and international we can also have the animated film with subtitles in different languages so that children can learn about climate issues in a mode they enjoy (animation, cartoon or comic) this is fun but they are learning.

This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the boundless potential of human creativity.

I wrote to some organizations that do environmental work for support and partnerships to print a number of Copies and as I was doing so a friend of mine told me about the call for applications by the Uganda Communications Commission under the content development support Programme, this was an opportunity to turn the reader into animated series so that it can reach more children as the target audience.

After submitting the application to the UCC under the CDSP, we got the funding which help me to: write 5 scripts of 5 episodes and 5 Story boards of 5 Episodes, but with this funding we have only been able to produce a single Episode (the pilot) to a deliverable and it’s called
1. The Problem with the Plastic Bottles, fortunately, this is this year’s world environment day’s Theme: Which is United against Plastic Pollution.
The other Four Episodes are;
2. Desire speaks to Plants,
3. What is an Ozone Layer?
4. Hottest day of the Year,
5. Saved for a very Rainy day.
We would like to raise money to produce the remaining four episodes and more because the environment is very wide and we plan to do this as we screen the film in schools because that is where the target audience is.

This support and Partnership will help us print more copies of the reader(United to save the environment) because this film is from this book and brand more tee shirts.
