David Kline is an award winning filmmaker with experience as a scriptwriter, producer, director and editor. He started his media career as a runner and medical adviser with BBC Films before training as a journalist and switching to television, working as a Researcher then progressing to Assistant Producer with BBC Sport.
He arrived in script development via a fortuitous, personal link to US actor, director and producer Laurence Fishburne whom he helped with the development of a screen adaptation of a well-known novella (Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist') for Warner Brothers. David has also worked as a script reader and reporter for several UK film agencies including Script Factory, Scottish Screen and Northern Ireland Screen.
David has co-written a feature film screenplay, 'Housejackers,' which was optioned by Poli Productions and produced by Northern Ireland Screen in March 2023. The film is currently in post-production.
In addition, David has written a number of spec feature film screenplays in a range of genres from horror to social drama, thriller to family drama as well as a spec six-part Television Drama series, ‘Prey Drive,’ a dark, suburban thriller.
David has written numerous short film scripts and produced several, including 'Game Over' a co-write with Director Adam Jenkins featuring Blake Harrison, Gemma Whelan and Naomi Battrick, which was a winner of the Performance Film and Media Insurance Short Film Competition 2019 as well as receiving multiple Official Selections at film festivals including the LA Shorts International Film Festival 2018 and the London Short Film Festival 2019. David also wrote, produced, directed and edited the short film 'On the Edge' which was winner of Best Drama (Diamond Award) at the European Independent Film Award (EIFA) summer 2018.
With 'Two for One,' I wanted to explore the themes of loss and loneliness and how it can be based on past experience and a reluctance or inability to change. In order to move forward, sometimes the very thing we need is right in front of us.
I am delighted to introduce the screen talent of newcomers David Thrower and Samantha Fields who play their respective characters with gentle and subtle pathos which maintains audience empathy throughout.
The talented, up-and-coming cinematographer Joe McDonald lit and shot the film and seasoned editor and friend Matthew Tabern kindly and diligently cut it for us.
Freddie Lim McGleenon, at the time, a 17-year-old composer, created sensitive and stirring music that shows emotional maturity well beyond his tender years.
A big thank you to everyone involved, including my partner Deb, our daughter Ruby and my good friend Adam Jenkins. We had such a talented and hardworking team. Thank you again to all those who supported us.
