Two Sleeps till Sarco
Logline: When Jenno’s deteriorating memory evokes questions on a road trip to his euthanasia, his friends must carefully decide how much to divulge.
Two Sleeps till Sarco is a 15 minute, road trip drama set between London and Geneva. The film layers the ticking clock of impending euthanasia with the disorientation of amnesia and impaired vision to put the audience firmly in the shoes of a protagonist who suffers from terminal brain cancer. Each character wrestles with acceptance and the need to withhold information in their own way - his girlfriend wants to tell him the truth to prevent his death; his friend has promised to make sure he is euthanised even if he forgets - allowing the film to feel as much a thriller as it is a road trip drama.

In December 2021, worldwide news broke of the development of the controversial Sarco suicide pod in Switzerland, where euthanasia is legal. In the same month, I read the final blog posts of cinematographer Geoff Boyle, who journaled his battle with cancer and his subsequent preparation for euthanasia. My fascination with the former and heartbreaking sympathy for the latter inspired me to write a story following three friends who pave over doom and despair with drugs and adventure.
