Director Biography - Sam Connell

I've grown up in the South-West of Victoria in a small country town called Colac. I have always been creative, starting acting at the age of fifteen and progressing into crew roles through a CERT 2 in Creative Industries and a CERT 3 in Screen and Media.

I'm currently in the final trimester of my Film Degree at SAE Institute Melbourne. Over the past two years, I have developed as a creative through a diverse range of crewing roles over many short films and music videos. The film I am most proud of is, "Twitch And Honey", a short documentary that we shot over two days.

Most recently I worked as the Production Designer for a short 14min film "Swallow And Magpie".

Director Statement

I believe sex workers are historically and regularly stigmatised for their line of work. We as a society have been conditioned to see the sex industry as dirty, corrupted and wrong, but is it really?

I want to challenge audiences to question their pre-conceived ideas on the industry and the people who work in it. We shouldn’t be questioning and interrogating the workers, we need to be making the audience take a step back and question the whys of their ideals.
