Director Biography - Gaby Soto, Juan Camilo Rincon

Gaby was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Due to the socio-political situation in the country she had to leave with her family at a very young age. This created an opportunity for her to experience life in many different countries. It broadened her cultural understanding of the world and made her motivated to keep learning new languages and meet new people.

When she was 14 years old she discovered the world of animation. She fell in love immediately and began doing research into the best schools. She soon discovered Ringling College and was set on her decision to study there.

During her time at Ringling College and through the completion of a Business minor she discovered that organization and management are two areas that she loves. In recent years her career goals have shifted to accommodate two of her biggest passions: animation and business. She is now aiming to build a career in production management in the animation industry.

Her hope for the future is to inspire and empower other women to pursue their dreams. She hopes to aid in achieving the goal of 50/50 gender representation in the industry and see more women in leadership positions.

Juan was born in Bogotá, Colombia. Growing up, he enjoyed watching movies, reading and playing videogames. He also practiced high performance archery during his teen years, he was a cadet national champion in 2007.

He graduated in Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia from the University of La Sabana. At the same university, he received a diploma in Advanced Photographic Techniques. While completing these studies he thought of pursuing a career in cinematography. However, during his last semesters he took a couple of classes dealing with 3d and animation. Though these were merely the most basic concepts of CGI, he was instantly hooked.

He spent the next couple of months playing around with 3d software and learning how to use Blender through tutorials. Six months later, he landed an internship at a small local studio called 3dados Media, where he worked on a project that was nominated for Annecy 2015.

After that, he took Animation Mentor’s Character Animation Program. For his graduation of the program, he visited LA and also attended the CTN expo. There, he met a lot of artists and was heavily inspired by everything he saw. It was ultimately this, what made him decide to pursue another Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Animation at Ringling College of Art and Design.

Having learned about the whole animation pipeline, Juan wishes to pursue a career in the industry that continues to offer him versatility and creative freedom. He is specially interested in lighting, compositing and anything that relates with achieving the final look of an animated production.
