Trust the Process

Zoé exists between starkly contrasting realms: the glittering facade of the virtual world and the raw, unfiltered reality. In the digital sphere, she shines as a celebrated influencer, while in the tangible world, she is an immigrant actress confronting the harsh truths of life and self. Zoé's journey through these opposing landscapes is a relentless pursuit of the elusive essence of true happiness

Director Statement

. Hello,

My name is Sisy Gómez Peña, and I am a Cuban filmmaker, born and raised in Cuba, where I also completed all my studies. I began my training in dance and theater and eventually specialized in film directing at the university. My career took a significant turn when the United Nations (UNICEF) awarded me for a short film about psychological and gender-based violence. This recognition allowed me to travel to the United States, where I currently reside in Miami.

Since my arrival in the United States without any family, I have faced numerous challenges, including the language barrier and the difficulties of making films in an environment like Miami. However, these challenges have strengthened my determination and creativity. I have worked on several documentaries, music videos, and independent projects, always with a feminist vision and a focus on gender issues and psychological violence.

In addition to my work in advertising, music videos, and documentaries, I developed an independent Cuban film festival called Jóvenes Frente al Espejo (Jofe) upon my arrival in the United States. This festival has been featured at various universities such as the University of Miami, Columbia University in New York, and the University of Texas at Austin. We have also had a presence in cultural spaces like the Centro Cultural Español de Miami and several art galleries in Miami.

This short film is particularly special to me because it addresses immigration and the emotions that come with it. I wanted to explore how depression and loneliness can arise in people who, at first glance, seem to have no reason to feel this way. It is a study of internal and psychological problems that are often overlooked in favor of more visible and tangible explanations.

As a director, I am passionate about telling stories from a female and feminist perspective, addressing psychological and social conflicts that affect both women and the LGBT community. I hope this film resonates with the audience and opens a dialogue about the complexity of human emotions and the immigration experience.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Sisy Gómez Peña
