Andrew Snyder grew up in northwest Iowa and is currently living in Iowa City. After graduating from high school, he attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles with dreams of becoming an actor. After directing a short film while there, he realized his dream was to be behind the camera, not in front of it.
He then attended the University of Iowa, earning dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Cinema and Screenwriting, graduating with Honors in Cinema. In his time post-graduation, he has worked as a Live Event Production Assistant for the Iowa Hawkeyes and as a freelance video producer.
Andrew has several short films under his belt, and he has worked in Production Assistant and Script Supervisor roles on feature films and TV Shows filmed in Iowa. Track Guy Movie is Snyder's first feature film.
As a lifelong Iowan, I’ve been fortunate to be a part of the running community in this state from middle school all the way into adulthood. Track Guy Movie is a love letter to that community, told through the story of Mike Jay. It has been an amazing ride to get to know this legendary PA announcer whose voice has echoed through stadiums for generations and whose foundation has impacted thousands of young track & field and cross country athletes across the state.
When brainstorming ideas for my first feature film, I knew I wanted to focus on something personal. After meeting Mike Jay while working at a running shoe store, I knew that his story was the right one. As I moved through pre-production and began filming with Mike, it became clear that this project would be more than a biography. It has grown into a celebration of passion, purpose, and the power of showing up for others.
As director and producer, I led a small crew with a big heart. We traveled across Iowa filming interviews, track meets, and personal moments with Mike that share the depth of his impact. With over 50,000 trailer views across all social platforms, the response to this film has been both overwhelming and affirming.
My hope for Track Guy Movie is two-fold. First, I hope that audiences can celebrate Mike Jay, his foundation, and the state of track & field in Iowa. On a deeper level, I hope it inspires viewers to see how showing up for others with passion and purpose can make a lasting difference.
