Experiencing Interruptions?

To the mall!

"The green, green grass of home."
In the summer of 2022, I spent creative time in Washington, D.C., following my quest to better understand this vast country, the United States of America. Admittedly looking with European eyes, I understood how limited and biased our view on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean is.
I chose The Mall in D.C. as the site for this film. The Mall, the massive complex of stunning musea and impressive Federal buildings and memorials, in an enormous, too-green lawn. The Mall symbolizes the unity between the States and the powerful Federal state. Beyond the grandeur and awe, a construct with seemingly unlimited possibilities reveals itself, fueled by a ubiquitous central state. The construct overarches the community, struggling with its inherent social inequality. Historically, it has been the scene for protest and violence, too. The people are split by the distrust for an often invisible apparatus and the search to become one in diversity. Who is the victim here?
Inside this specificity, on the green lawn of the Mall, I become aware of the universality of this singularity. This construct presents itself at times and places like a hyperobject, impossible to grasp as it appears and vanishes.
Will we, the people, ever be one? Will we ever be represented?
