Director Biography - Ryan Svirac

Ryan is an experienced film director, cinematographer and editor based in Perth, Western Australia. Ryan has worked and travelled around the world from Iceland, America, England and Australia for different documentary series on major networks.

Alongside his business partner Matthew Buss, he is currently developing television documentary content and feature films for his company Goodboy Media.

Director Statement

Torn Apart is a relentless survival story about a couple stranded in the ocean at night, hunted by a tiger shark. Drawing on the tension and terror that first captivated me as a child watching Jaws, I set out to craft a darker, more intense experience blending action and horror.

To my surprise, the film also took on a romance element as we explored the couple’s history and how they came together. Ultimately, Torn Apart became a story about a couple’s first and last day together — a deeply emotional journey wrapped in suspense and terror.

With a budget of $400 and a small, dedicated crew, we worked tirelessly over three months to bring this vision to life. This film is a testament to pushing creative limits and embracing the challenge of independent filmmaking.
